Why Pastoral Coaching?
In our rapidly changing world, the church faces many challenges external and internal. These challenges affect doctrine, daily living and ministry. But seen through the eyes of faith, these same challenges offer the church unprecedented opportunities for internal renewal and a great external move to present Jesus Christ to our world and to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28.19-20).
To make the most of these historic opportunities, the church needs innovative, bold, and Spirit-empowered leadership, pastors of character and commitment who serve not for the sake of a personal career, but for the sake of the call of Christ and the Cause that led Him to the Cross. Led by these kind of ministers, the church can and will rise to fulfill its calling and complete its biblical mandate.
The Leadership Challenge 2.0
As we stand before these historic open doors, however, the church is faced with two critical leadership issues: an aging pastorate and a diminishing number of young adults entering the ministry. The Assemblies of God acknowledged these issues, declaring its need of 4000 new ministers. Not soon, but now.
The Leadership Challenge 2.1
This presents a third issue: not only does the church need Millennials to enter the ministry, the church needs them to remain in ministry. And to thrive in ministry.
It’s about more than simply filling positions: it’s about Spirit-empowerment and innovation; it’s about ministers who bring the Gospel of Jesus to the church and the world in creative ministry that communicates clearly and disciples decisively – ministry that brings Christ in all of his grace and power to people.
Just as churches wrestle with the challenges of change, so do young church leaders. Many enthusiastically answer God’s call and begin life in ministry with great expectations. But sadly, many of these do not survive the early years, and many who survive cease to thrive – their ministry absolutely ends in sudden exit or it effectively ends in slow attrition. This must change.
The Leadership Challenge 2.1.1
This new generation of ministers understands and embraces the values and vision of the New Testament Church:
. . . Millennial ministers recognize their great need of Spirit empowerment and passionately seek it;
. . . Millenial ministers affirm the need for an anointed declaration of the Gospel in the world as well as an authentic demonstration of the Gospel in believers’ lives;
. . . Millennial ministers embrace the accountability and potential of team ministry, walking with others in the work of the Gospel. This is not only peer-focused, but intergenerational: Millennials earnestly desire the wisdom of those who have gone before them in ministry. No previous generation of ministers has so earnestly desired biblical mentorship and coaching. Enter Journey Pastoral Coaching.
Journey Pastoral Coaching
Journey Pastoral Coaching exists to help young ministers answer the call of God, and not just today, but for a lifetime.
Where other coaching ministries offer the invaluable service of helping pastors grow their churches, JPC helps pastors grow themselves in Christ. Through one-on-one coaching, peer mentorship and resourcing, JPC walks with the pastor, missionary, evangelist, chaplain and teacher in his or her own unique ministry life.
Build the Minister, Build the Ministry. For a Lifetime.
This vision and mission are built on the founding principle of JPC: build the minister, you build the ministry, and you do so for a lifetime.
We invite you to prayerfully consider investing in young ministers.
If your church is pastored by a Millennial Generation pastor, invest in your pastor by daily praying for him/her, by serving faithfully in your church, by seeing to it that his/her family is well-provided for, by insisting that he/she take time for family, for vacation and for retreats and conferences.
If you know a Millennial in ministry, take the time to encourage, to consider financial support, to pray for him/her.
And, of course, we invite you to stand with young ministers by financially supporting JPC. You can help us build ministers and ministries that can thrive for a lifetime – to the glory of God, the good of God’s people, and the salvation of those who have yet to believe on Jesus Christ.
